This refined foldind fan is made of carefully-selected Shimane madake bamboo and washi from Tosa.
The fan paper is painstakingly coated with layers of “kakishibu” persimmon tannin, which is a natural coating that has been used the Heian period (794-1185). Its elegant luster deepens as it is used.
The bamboo shaft is decorated with a checkered pattern, which is said to signify eternity, development, and prosperity.
It is ideal as a gift to wish for business expansion, prosperity of offspring, and other increases in luck.
The front side is red and the back side is black, making it reversible for a variety of looks.
